Monzo’s Chief Operating Officer, Sujata Bhatia, has announced her departure from the UK digital bank after a five-year tenure. Bhatia shared the news on LinkedIn, stating, “There’s never a good time to leave a company that’s on a tear and has some of the best and smartest people driving it forward, but in many ways, that’s exactly why it feels like the right time.”
Joining Monzo in 2020 from American Express, where she spent 16 years in various roles—including General Manager and Head of Europe for Global Merchant Services—Bhatia has been instrumental in scaling Monzo’s operations. During her tenure, the bank’s customer base expanded from three million to over 11 million, and annualized revenues grew from £60 million to £1 billion.
Reflecting on her time at Monzo, Bhatia expressed pride in the company’s achievements and the talented team driving its success. She has not disclosed her future plans but indicated she would share them when ready.
Monzo has yet to announce a successor for the COO position. The bank continues to focus on growth and innovation in the competitive digital banking sector.
